Greenwood Cemetery contains graves of Confederate soldiers who were killed in the American Civil War (1861-1865). Among the burials are:
- General William Barksdale. He was a general of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg and died on 3 July 1863.
- Brigade General Richard Griffith. He was a general of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was mortally wounded at the Battle of Savage's Station and died on 29 June 1862.
- Colonel Erasmus Burt. He was a colonel of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. He was killed in action at the Battle of Ball's Bluff in Northern Virginia on 26 October 1861. He was known as "the Father of the Deaf and Dumb Institute of Mississippi".
