Henry Harmon (1839–1861) and his father, Jacob Harmon (1818–1861),were two of the pro-Union guerrillas from the area who burned the railroad bridge over nearby Lick Creek on 8 November 1861, as part of a larger plan to make way for a Union Army invasion. Both were hanged by Confederate authorities on 17 December 1861, for their participation in the pro-Union East Tennessee bridge burnings.
