Fort Wetherill

The original fort was built around 1800. Prior to the Second World War, a new concrete fort was built and armed for the defend of the American coast. It had a crew of 1,200 soldiers. The fort functioned in the year before the war primarily as a military training facility and after the war as a training center for German prisoners of war.

Nowadays the fort is abandoned. It is positioned atop high granite cliffs, with a wonderful view.
