Fredericksburg National Cemetery

The National Cemeteries in the U.S.A. are used for graves of war dead, graves of U.S. military personnel, veterans and their spouses but not exclusively so. There are also special state veteran cemeteries.

Fredericksburg National Cemetery was opened in 1865. The cemetery was placed on Marye's Heights, a Confederate stronghold during the Battle of Fredricksburg. There are in 15,243 graves from the the American Civil War on this cemetery, of which only 2,473 were identified. There are also about 100 graves of 20th century soldiers on the cemetery.
