Stone Wall at Sunken Road

This is the only remaining original section of the Sunken Road's stone wall in the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. During the Battle of Fredericksburg (13 December 1862) the heaviest fight took place on this location. Over 8,000 Union soldiers had been shot (dead or wounded) in front of this stone wall at Marye's Heights.
