Order of the Star of India
The Most Exalted Order of the Star of India was instituted by Queen Victoria in 1861.
There are three classes: Knight Grand Commander (GSCI) confered upon Princes or Chiefs of India, or upon British subjects for important and loyal services rendered to the Indian Empire; Knight Commander (KCSI) and Companion (CSI). The two lower classes were bestowed for similar services of not less than 30 years duration.
The badge, an onyx cameo, bears the effigy of Queen Victoria set in a gold oval with the motto of the Order: "Heaven's Light our Guide" in diamants on a pale blue ground, surmounted by a star in chased silver. The ribbon is 1.25" wide with thin horizontal stripes alternatively of white and light blue flanked by two broad vertical stripes of white set slightly inwards from either edge.
