The Gallantry Cross was instituted on August 15th, 1950 and could be awarded on foru levels:
- with Palme for awarding at National Forces level;
- with Golden Star for awarding at Corps Level;
- with Silver Star for awarding at Divisional level;
- with Bronze Star for awaridng at Regimental or Brigade level.
When a unit was awarded the decoration, a Palme was awarded and the ribbon surrounded with a golden rim.
