Presidential Watch

This special gold pocket watch was given by the President of the United States on behalf of the American people to a foreigner who selflessly rescued an American citizen at sea. The program for the presentation of the watch, known as the "Official Award to Non-Citizens of the United States of America for Saving Lives at Sea," was approved by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862.
