Sgt. Gilbert Herrera served as a machine gun squad leader in Company B, 194th Glider Infantry, 17 Airborne Division.
He fought in Flamierge, Belgium (near Bastogne) in the Battle of the Bulge, and near Wesel and Hamminkeln, Germany during Operation Varsity.
