Douglas was born on November 28 1920 in Nokomis Saskatchewan, the son of William Tawse Riach (Scottish) and Dorothy Helen Riach nee Hards (English) of Nokomis. They were married on March 8 1916 in Nokomis.
His brothers were Ronald McDonald, William Ross (both also with the RCAF), Stuart Richard and Ian David Riach. His sisters were Constance Esther Fletcher, Phyllis Primrose Riach and Dorothy Mildred Helen May.
He was a farmer and member of the Church of England.
His sports were hockey, tennis, swimming and skating and his hobby was shooting.
He enlisted on July 1 1941 in Regina Saskatchewan and he went thereafter on October 8 1942 overseas to the UK.
Douglas was killed in action on Sunday February 20 1944 age 23 due to a crash near the village of Kallenkote near Steenwijkerwold before or after an attack on Leipzig in Germany.
The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt William J. Webb age 31 in grave 1-1, P/O Ivor G. Bunn age 27 in grave 1-5, , Sgt Harold Hemmings age 24 in grave 1-6 and Sgt Ronald J. Chaplin in grave 1-7.
The fallen RAF crew member was P/O Thomas H. Smith age 20 in grave 1-2 and the fallen RNZAF crew member was F/Sgt Albert C. Hamilton age 21 in grave 1-4.

He served with the 78 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
