Charles T. Duncan. fighter pilot veteran of action at Guam, Palau, Formosa, Nansei, Shote, the Philippines and the Bonins; was killed March 17th when his fighter plane crashed near Santa Rosa California. He returned to the United States last December after completing 41 strikes during his nine months in the Southwest Pacific. He held the Silver Star, DFC, and a Presidential Unit Citation. The DFC was for knocking three enemy bombers out of the air and for a positive hit on a Japanese aircraft carrier which sank during the battle of Leyte Gulf last October. The Silver Star was for gallantry in action November 5th when he helped sink a Japanese heavy cruiser. Duncan flew through intense anti-aircraft fire and obtained two rocket hits and then strafed, disrupting the cruiser's anti-aircraft fire. He was the son of Mrs. Kizzie Lee Duncan and is survived also by his widow and six-months-old son. Lt. Charles Phillips of Fort Worth accompanied his body to Houston from California.
