For gallantry in action on 18 February 1945 in the vicinity of Brandscheid, Germany. During an enemy counterattack, a defending company was pinned down by intense artillery, mortar and small arms fire. Realizing the necessity of holding the newly won ground, Private First class Anoushian ran to a completely exposed position in front of the company and began firing his automatic rifle upon the advancing hostile force. The enemy concentrated all available fire upon him, but he continued to maintain a stream of fire that killed many of the hostile troops and forced the remaining enemy to break into a disorganised retreat. Private First Class Anoushian's gallantry in single handedly stopping a counterattack was in accordance with high military tradition. Entered Military Service from New York.
