"Throughout the period from Oct 44 until Apr 45 when he was severely wounded, Sgt Proehl was attached to A Sqn 2 HCR. He has throughout the campaign displayed the most outstanding courage and by his complete disregard for his personal safety been an inspiration to every one. He always insisted on travelling on the back of the leading armoured cars and so time and again came under very heavy fire. By being right in front he was able to obtain the earliest information both from civilians and prisoners. This early information was frequently of vital importance."
