Ir. Frederik Müller was born in Utrecht in 1899. He worked as an engineer in Utrecht. Between 1915 and 1927 he was co-owner of the 'beenzwart' factory "De Benenkluif" together with his brother. Müller started to get involved in politics in the 1930s and became an early member and supporter of Mussert's NSB.
During the German occupation, Müller was mayor of Rotterdam and Authorized Representative [of the Leader] for Rotterdam. In this office he was guilty of deportations of Rotterdam Jews. He also actively worked on sending Rotterdammers to Germany for, for example, the Arbeitseinsatz. For this reason he was held in high regard by the German occupying forces.
Müller was deposed as mayor on 7 May 1945 and was detained at the police station for five days after which he was transferred to a school on the Rochussenstraat.
After the war, Müller was prosecuted by a special public prosecutor. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which he served almost six years. He was also deprived of his right to vote.
