Dipl.-Ing Walter Friebel was attached to the RLM (Reichs Luftfahrt Ministerium) as a leading aircraft developer. During the war he was involved in the development and testing of new aircraft, including the Flettner Fl 282 Kolibr and the Arado Ar 232 Tausendfüßler. Friebel was in command of Amtsgruppe GL/C-E2. He was killed during a test flight from Vienna to Berlin on 20 November 1943. His death had a major impact on the development of the Ar 232 and especially the 432, which was a modification of the original design.
