The following divisional order-of-the-day (dated 04.12.1940) describes why Mosandl received the Knight’s Cross…
“The Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Leutnant Mosandl, Zugführer in the 6./Geb.Jäg.Rgt. 99, on the 28.11.1940.
On the 08.06.1940 Leutnant Mosandl and his Zug captured the bitterly defended enemy strongpoint at St. Amand-Ferme in close combat. By this action Mosandl made an invaluable contribution towards the creation of a decisive penetration into the enemy position.
During the attack over and south of the Aisne river Leutnant Mosandl again distinguished himself at the head of his Zug by his especially prudent leadership and outstanding personal bravery.
I congratulate Leutnant Mosandl on his receiving this high award.”
