Wiesemann's Knight's Cross recommendation reads as follows...
"1. The attacks of the Division, which on the 10. and 11.7.1943 continued in front of the heavily built positions on the left and right of the Belgorod-Kursk railway line at Prokhorovka. On the morning of the 12.7. came a heavy enemy attack in several waves, supported by tanks, against the positions of the Division. To the northwest of the railway, the advancing armoured column was probing the positions of the Division in an attempt to overrun them. Protecting to the east of the railway, attacking tanks certainly had the intention of linking up with this enemy armoured column for a combined breakthrough to Storoshewoje.
These attacking tanks were met by the assault guns of the 2./Stu.Gesch.Abt. - Batterie Wiesemann - and gave up after several attempts to overrun the Batterie. After firing from all 10 tanks, they gave up on their intentions and withdrew.
Since the enemy armoured column had not yet taken Storoshewoje, they still represented a strong threat to the right flank of the Division, particularly the II. Battalion of the 1st Regiment and the neighbouring Division. After several attacks they had still not succeeded in taking their attacks into the village of Storoshewoje. SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann decided to begin an attack with his Batterie, without orders and using his own initiative, despite huge difficulties with the ground and without infantry protection. After personal reconnaissance, his Batterie ahead, the preparations for this surprise action were ready.
The rapid drive to their firing positions and the first burst of fire resulted in heavy losses to the enemy. The enemy was blown out of their well-built positions and destroyed. The strong threat to the right flank of the Division was removed and heavy losses to the enemy infantry were inflicted. The closing of the gap between us and our neigbour had been completed, and the conditions for the continuation of our attack were created.
The Batterie Wiesemann destroyed three well-camouflaged and entrenched T-34s, together with heavy losses to the enemy infantry too, and thus broke the offensive strength of the entire enemy group off at the tip.
2. After the Division had taken the area southwest of Kornin, SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann had the honour of leading a Kampfgruppe which was to clear the high ground to the north of Kornin. During a close personal investigation of the ground, SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann spotted an enemy supply column. Without attack orders, he moved his Batterie around the village and took possession of the necessary high ground.
The enemy tried, with a deeply echeloned Pakfront, to stop the attack. But SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann, through his outstanding leadership, disrupted the intentions of the enemy. He personally boxed in their right flank with his Batterie in front and immediately thereafter relieved the pressure on the German infantry attacking on the left. But afterwards, during a new attack from a well-camouflaged, silent anti-tank gun, his vehicle received a hit to the left rear of the main superstructure. A fragment broke off from the armour, penetrating into his heart and killing him immediately.
However the overall victory here had been achieved, and the responsibility largely falls to the demonstrated ability of SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann.
Altogether, the 2./Stu.Gesch.Abt. — Batterie Wiesemann — has destroyed:
57 tanks (52 T-34, 2 Mark IV, 1 KV-1, 1 M3 Grant and 1 T-70)
147 AT guns (7.62cm), of which SS-Hstuf. Wiesemann himself destroyed 38
23 AT guns (4.7cm) as well as numerous machine-guns and tank rifles
SS-Hauptsturmführer Wiesemann, in all of the fighting days, was tried and tested to the highest and his Batterie was daring and dashing in all of its battles, largely because of him. I please ask for the posthumous award of the Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross."
