Awarded for the defensive success of his Regiment during the battle for the Dnieper river. In the time period 05.-10.10.1943, northwest of Novo-Georgyevsk, Voß's weakened Regiment was forced to defend a wide sector of front against a combined breakthrough attempt by 4 Soviet divisions. Fighting alongside his troops, Voß was able to conduct a successful defensive battle before being wounded on the 11.10.1943 by an anti-tank gun shell (his sixth wound on the Eastern front). He died from it the same day, and was posthumously recognized for his contribution to the German victory in this sector.
