“General der Artillerie Albert Wodrig had previously distinguished himself during the Polish Campaign. Later, during the fighting in the West, he had a major share in the swift establishment of contact with the Luftlande-Division that had landed in Holland. His actions were likewise invaluable for throwing those Allied forces that had been sent to support the Dutch (English, French and Belgians) back to Antwerp. His masterful employment of the available artillery decisively contributed to making Fortress Antwerp ready for capture. Wodrig personally entered into Antwerp with the spearheads of his Korps, and through his actions he prevented the destruction of the pedestrian tunnel under the Schelde. His exemplary leadership and inspiring devotion to duty in the foremost line were critical for the successes of his troops.”
