Joachim Ziegler was transferred to the Waffen-SS in June 1943 and finally became Brigadeführer (Generalmajor). Was killed during the Battle for Berlin on May 2nd 1945.

1) Preventing a Soviet breakthrough in his sector during their assault on Libau on 24/25.01.1945.
2) Relieving the town of Arnswalde on 15.02.1945. He was able to smash through the Soviet defences and permitted the escape of 1100 soldiers, 1000 wounded and 7000 civilians.
3) Defending against Soviet attacks toward Stettin in March 1945. In the period from 03-18.02.1945 his division destroyed 194 tanks.
