Herbert Krause served from August 1939 until July 1942 with I. / Flak-Regiment 51 within the 6.Flak-Division (motorisiert). He was in 1940 active in France and 1941-42 in northern Russia. From July 1942 until March he served with leichte Flak-Abteilung 75 of the same Division (a.o. Leningrad ). Between March to August 1943 he was detached with the Staff of the 6.FIak-Division (motorisiert) after which he served with I. / Flak-Abteilung 111 leicht (motorisiert) of that same Division, then still active in northern Russia.
In January 1944 he was transferred to schwere Flak-Abteilung 267(o), a stationary heavy Flak unit, based in northern Germany (Bremen). Between August 1944 and January 1945, he served with schwere Flak-Abteilung 647(o), a stationary heavy Flak unit, then based in Eastern Germany. The final months of the war he served again with schwere Flak-Abteilung 647(o) in Bremen.
