During July 1942 Oberleutnant Beyer and his Kompanie managed to contain a Soviet penetration in the positions of the Bataillon by a bold counterthrust. By doing so they prevented a full breakthrough by the Soviets. In recognition of this action Oberleutnant Beyer would be awarded the Knight’s Cross.
