The following wartime excerpt describes why Bohlmann-Combrinck was awarded the Knight’s Cross…

“The victorious battles around Ostrog were decisive for the successes of the 11. Panzer-Division. Kampfgruppe Bohlmann bore the brunt of this combat, and as such these victories can be solely attributed to his superior leadership and heroic actions in the foremost line. In doing so Oberst Bohlmann enabled the entire Division to continue its advance at a decisive point.”

The actions referred to here were:

1.) When Schützen-Regiment 111 forced a crossing over the 3 km long Wilja dam (which led across an impassable swamp) in the face of enemy tanks and fieldworks. This took place after the storming of Ostrog itself on the 27.06.1941.

2.) When Bohlmann-Combrinck and his Regiment broke the ring around the temporarily encircled Division near Berditschew.
