During the fighting near Toropez at the end of December 1942 Oberleutnant Bruhn stormed a heavily defended village at the head of his Grenadier-Kompanie and then defended it successfully against all hostile counterattacks. In the process Bruhn was badly wounded and had to be evacuated, however his achievements proved sufficient to merit him the award of the Knight’s Cross.
