“Burghartswieser achieved notable successes during the breakthrough of the Grecian northern fortifications, however his greatest victory came after this time. During the airborne operation against Crete he was involved during the attack against Galatas on the 25.05.1941. Correctly assessing the situation, Burghartswieser drove a wedge into the heavily fortified village with an ad-hoc shock group that guaranteed its eventual fall. In doing this Burghartswieser had the decisive share in the eventual capture of the key position of Chania.”
