On the 06.09.1943 Paul Trabandt and his self-propelled AT gun were part of a weak screen covering the railway line between Poltava and Kharkov, in position amongst corn and sunflower fields. Following an artillery preparation a group of Soviet tanks and infantry advanced on Germans. Trabandt's gun quickly dispatched two of the enemy tanks and stymied the enemy attack. The Soviets tried again two more times, and six tanks threatened to breakthrough the German lines. Trabandt and his subordinated troops knocked out all of them, the last one just 15 meters away from Trabandt's gun with the help of SMG's and grenades. Over the course of the whole action 17 enemy tanks were knocked out and the German position remained intact. For his actions this day Trabandt received the Knight's Cross.
