    Edward S. Lowe served as the senior medical officer aboard the heavy cruiser U.S.S. San Fancisco (CA-38), in 1941 during the Pearl Harbor Attack and was still the SMO during 1942.

    Was also entitled to wear the Presidential Unit Citation (USS San Francisco) and the Navy Unit Commendation (USS Solace - Pearl Harbor).

    "For distinguished service in the line of his profession, extraordinary courage, and disregard of personal danger while serving as Senior Medical Officer on board the Heavy Cruiser U.S.S. SAN FRANCISCO (CA-38), after that vessel was severely damaged during an engagement with Japanese naval forces near Savo Island on the night of 12 - 13 November 1942. By his courage, determination, and untiring devotion to duty, Lieutenant Commander Lowe saved many lives. His professional ability, courage, and inspiring devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the Medical Corps and the United States Naval Service."
