Biography

Korporaal (Corporal) Hans Cramer served with No. 2 (Dutch) Troop, No. 10 (Inter Allied) Commando. During Market Garden he was attached to the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. In November 1944 he participated in Operation Infatuate, landing at Westkapelle.

For having distinguished himself in combat against the enemy by courageous acts after having applied voluntarily for a posting to a British so-called Commando as early as 1942 or some other unit:
1) on September 17, 1944, whilst posted to the Medical Department of the U.S. 82nd Airborne Division after having landed per glider near Groesbeek, first having done his duty with this unit in a proper manner and afterwards, at his own request, taking part in reconnaissance and combat patrols in the area near Nijmegen.
2) on November 1, 1944, posted to No. 47 Royal Marine Commando having landed near Westkapelle under heavy enemy fire and on November 3 having taken part in the storming of the last enemy fortifications near Zoutelande under heavy fire from artillery and machine guns and being severely injured when enemy mortar grenades came down in his group.
