Biography

Hans Havik was the first child of two. His father was an engineer. He was raised as an evangelical. He had seven years of primary school, three years of grammar school. In 1932, as an eight-year-old boy, he joined the youth storm of the NSB and became an ensign. Service with the SS from 16 April 1941 with the SS Freiw. Standarte "Nordwest". Havik was a tall, slim man (1m 90). Sturmbannführer Klingenberg describes him as "someone who still needs to work on in terms of performance and attitude, aware of his responsibilities, helpful but with underdeveloped military skills. H. is open and clear. His general development is good. Despite a long illness, he has brought this up to standard through further training with great dedication." Klingenberg finds him suitable as an SS-Führer (officer) and he is nominated by him as Schützenzugführer (commander of an infantry platoon). The intention is that after having proven himself as a platoon commander at the front, he will be transferred to the SD.

Hans Havik was a student at the SS Junkerschüle Tolz (8. Kriegslehrgang): 8 June 1942 to 5 December 1942. Then he was sent to the SS Panzergrenadier-Ausbildungs-und-Ersatz-Btln. "Wiking" as Untersturmführer on 1 May 1943 and from there to SS Sturmgeschützabteilung 5 (Gen.Kdo. Gem. SS Pz.Korps) on 10 June 1943. He remained there until 28 November 1944. Where he is then is unclear, but on 14 January 1945 he turns up in the Panzer-Abteilung of SS Polizei Panzergrenadier-Division. This is at odds with the information from the Führerliste which gives him in 1945 at 4.Komp./SS-Panzer-Regiment "Wiking".
