Joachim Domaschk joined the 1st Battalion of Infantry Regiment 10 in 1935, where he was promoted to lieutenant in 1938. As a member of the 14th Company, he took part in the Polish and western campaigns. After the campaign in the west, his regiment was converted to the Rifle Regiment 108. After the Balkan campaign, he fought in Russia from June 1941, where he was awarded the German Cross in Gold on April 29, 1942. From September 1942 he led the 1st battalion of the regiment, on November 1, 1942 he was promoted to captain off Stalingrad. In the battles for Stalingrad he distinguished himself in particular and was seriously wounded in the process. He was flown out of the boiler and from April 1943 reorganized the 1st Battalion in France. On October 12, 1943, he was awarded the Knight's Cross for his service in Stalingrad and promoted to major on December 1, 1943. From the end of 1943 he was back in service with his battalion in Russia. For his decisive achievement in the leadership of his battalion in the area west of the lower Dniester he was awarded the oak leaves on June 11, 1944. He was wounded for the eleventh time. After his recovery he joined the General Staff of the OKH in December 1944 and at the end of the war he was Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Personnel Office.
