    Biography

    From June, 1941 till January, 1942 SS-Standartenführer Paul Blobel was the commander of the Sonderkommando 4a of Einsatzgruppe C. He was responsible for the massacre at Babi Yar in Kiev where his killing squad murdered 33,771 Jewish civilians on September 29 and 30, 1941. Afterwards he was the commander of Sonderkommando 1005, which was responsible for erasing the traces of the mass killings committed by Nazis in occupied Eastern Europe. Blobel was sentenced to death by the U.S. military tribunal in Nuremberg at the Einsatzgruppen Trial. He was hanged at Landsberg prison on June 8, 1951.
