As part of the German efforts to construct a bridgehead at Wereja on the 17.10.1941, Weber and his Bataillon managed to seize the Hill 204 in spite of a simultaneous Soviet armoured attack. He then held this position for two days against heavy attacks with minimal friendly support. By this action he played a major role in the defense of the German crossings over the Protva and consequently the expansion of the bridgehead that followed, and was duly recognized for this success.
