Citation:
"For gallantry in action on 21 February 1945. When enemy infantry, pointed by a Tiger tank, were attacking fiercely in the Stiftswald, France, Lieutenant Mc Daniel took it upon himself to attempt to knock out the tank. Working his way up to a short distance from the constantly firing tank which was protected by enemy infantrymen, he fired an anti-tank grenade and immobilized the tank. Still under heavy fire from the crippled vehicle, he moved toward a dugout, but be was sighted by enemy gunners as he entered the cover and.was instantly killed. His gallant action frustrated the enemy attack and, exemplifies the highest standard of courage in the Armed Forces of the United States."
