Citation:
"For heroic achievement in action on 22 February 1945. During intensive action against a strong enemy position in the Stiftswald, France, Sergeant Stouder discovered that his forward machine gun section was badly waisting ammunition. On hIs own initiative, he carried the ammunition forward under heavy enemy artillery and small arms fire. Observing that the mortar sections of his and an adjacent company were not firing cohesively, he reorganized the units and placed effective fire upon the enemy. His courageous action was an inspiration to all the men, and frustrated animminent enemy attack."

At the time of the action he still held the rank of Sergeant.
