A Troop with Sergeant Carlson was on patrol at Unnenberg on April 11th, 1945 when they stumbled upon a small group of German soldiers. As the Germans were waving a white flag, the Americans thought they wanted to surrender. At a certain moment the Germans jumped into a ditch, grabbed their weapons and fired upon the Americans. Two of US military, one of who was Sergeant Carlson were killed in this event.
