Eugene E. Job, 36 774 377, Private First Class, Infantry, Company “G”, 7th Infantry Regiment. For gallantry in action. On the night of 8 January 1945, three members of Private First Class Job’s patrol were wounded and the rest held down in a ditch by automatic and rifle fire at 40 yards range coming from positions in and around a house near La Chappelle, Département Haut Rhin, France. Launching a rifle grenade, he killed a three-man crew and knocked out a machine gun. When a protecting enemy rifleman opened fire at him, Private First Class Job killed him with another well-placed shot. Creeping up the dich until he was within 10 yards of the house, he then charged inside, calling on the occupants to surrender. Demoralized by this bold assault, nine Germans capitulated. Residence: Chicago, Illinois.
