By Direction of the President, under the provisions of AR 600-45, dated 22 September 1943, as amended, the Bronze Star Medal is awarded, posthumously, to: Second Lieutenant Axel E. Sahlin (02008485), Infantry, Company K, 310th Infantry Regiment, for meritorious service in connection with military operations against the enemy during the period from 13 December 1944 to 10 April 1945 in Germany.

As platoon sergeant and later platoon leader, Second Lieutenant Sahlin performed his duties in an efficient and fearless manner. The bravery and personal aggressiveness with which he led his platoon gave inspiration to his men. His leadership and devotion to duty were in accordance with the highest military traditions.

Entered the military service from New York.
