On the 04.12.1942, on the Caucasus front, a Soviet battlegroup approached to a position just in front of the German line. Recognizing the danger it posed, Nobis assembled a force consisting of the 7. Kompanie z.b.V. 800, small elements of the Jäger-Regiment 207, the 1./Pionier-Bataillon 97, his regimental staff and elements of the Stabskompanie. In total this group was about 400-500 men strong. With it he struck the Soviet group and shattered it while inflicting heavy loss. By doing this he stopped a Soviet push towards the Pschisch as well as the rolling up of the German defense line west of the river. He was decorated with the Oakleaves for this action.

On the 10.12.1941 the German frontline NE of Troizkoje came under an attack from two Soviet regiments (supported by tanks, Katyushas and aircraft) coming from the direction of Kalinowo. They succeeded in breaking into the German line just north of Troizkoje. An immediate counterattack failed to bring the attack to a halt, and the commander of the I./Infanterie-Regiment 204 fell in the process. Recognizing the impending danger posed by this attack, Hauptmann Nobis independently moved to take command of the I./Infanterie-Regiment 204 in addition to his own Bataillon. With these forces he managed to prevent a Soviet breakthrough, and was awarded the Knight’s Cross for his efforts here.
