"Has decorated himself by exceptional brave and tactfull deadsin battle against the enemy, by in the early morning of 10th May 1940 near Coevorden, as commander of a checkpoint at a chanal bridg which was to be blown up, voluntarely in an exceptional way with only three men for some hours being able to stop the advance of an larger and stronger enemy, weaponed with armoured cars. Hereby inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy, also by himself firing the only available light machine gun and holding until the last shot was fired, although his post was completely surrounded and he could not fire in all directions anymore."
