Recommendation:
For having distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy, after having applied voluntarily for a posting with a British so-called Commando or some other unit; after having been assigned to the Intelligence Squad of 1 Battalion, the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, having landed in a glider near Wolfheze on 17 September 1944 and subsequently having gone in the direction of “Het Planken Wambuis” to the East of Ede.
Subsequently by participating the following morning, 18 September, in the fighting against the enemy who were firing at our own landing paratroops and inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.
Subsequently by pushing in the direction of Arnhem with the paratroops in the night of 18 to 19 September until near the “Johanna hoeve” strong hostile opposition was encountered and having been subjected to intense enemy fire from mortars and airplanes.
Finally by having continued to participate in the fighting in an exhausted condition and subjected to intense enemy fire until the unit, consisting of about 20 men to which he was attached came under hostile fire from tanks and snipers in trees and ultimately was captured by a superior enemy.
