The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Donald B. Blaisdell, Private, U.S. Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy, in action against enemy forces from 31 March 1945 to 18 April 1945, at Cebu, Philippine Islands. Private Blaisdell was a member of a demolition team which was employed in the destruction of enemy emplacements, the clearing of mines and booby traps and the sealing of gun emplacements and caves. They also acted as security for a bulldozer operating in the forward area. Private Blaisdell, with complete disregard for his own safety, was instrumental in saving the lives of many of the infantrymen by the removal of these obstacles and aided in the success of the operation. His intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
