Isadore M. Rider, 33692200, Staff Sergeant, Company A, 331st Infantry, United States Army. For distinguishing himself by gallantry in action near St. Malo, France, on 7 August 1944. When fire from an enemy mortar was threatening the advance of Staff Sergeant Rider’s platoon, he unhesitatingly went forward despite excellent hostile observation and heavy mortar fire to which he was forced to expose himself. After crawling 450 yards to a point where he could observe the enemy action, with cool presence of mind he killed or wounded the enemy gunners with rifle fire and enabled his company to continue its advance. Staff Sergeant Rider’s complete disregard for personal safety and his inspiring courage reflect the highest credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service of the United States. Entered military service from Pennsylvania.
