Roberto C. Robles, 38555182, Staff Sergeant, Company C, 331st Infantry, United States Army. For distinguishing himself by gallantry in action near Carentan, France, on 5 July 1944. Staff Sergeant Robles was a member of a patrol assigned to locate an enemy machine gun holding up the advance of his unit. As he attempted to close in on the position, several potato masher grenades were thrown at him. Displaying outstanding presence of mind, Staff Sergeant Robles scooped up the grenades, threw them back into the emplacement and, utterly disregarding his own safety, fearlessly rushed the position, bayoneted the crew and demolished the gun. Staff Sergeant Robles’ heroic and aggressive devotion to duty materially aided the advance of his company. The outstanding courage, coolness and valiant initiative of this non-commissioned officer reflect the highest credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service of the United States. Entered military service from Texas.
