"As Battalion Signal Officer during the operations near Arnhem, Lieutenant Lamond was indefatigable in maintaining communications, supervising the laying of cable under heavy fire with complete disregard for personal danger. Later, when the battalion had suffered heavy casualties, he took over command of a company, and with no other officers to assist him, took it through a most trying period, under continual fire, including the final evacuation. On 23rd September 1944 when the fighting was at its fiercest, he personally led a patrol into a forward area and cleared out an enemy sniper post, with complete disregard for his personal safety. That night he led a fighting patrol which, under cover of darkness, made contact with and drove out a German outpost which was digging in close to the battalion position. Throughout the operation this officer's conduct was an example and inspiration to his men."
