Recommendation:
For having distinguished himself by courageous conduct against the enemy. On May 10th, 1940, as commander of a group in the defence of the river Meuse near Sambeek, having attempted to fire a Piece 8, Steel, of which the commander was missing, personally firing the weapon for a length of time, operating the light machinegun in a pillbox until it was put out of action by a direct hit, wounding him seriously at the same time.
