"On May 24th, 1940, at SAVEUSE 2/Lt. Erleigh was ordered to carry out reconnaissance of crossings of the R. Somme. Whilst proceeding on this reconnaissance he encountered greatly superior enemy forces including several anti-tank guns. Throughout the morning 2/Lt. Erleigh displayed coolness and courage in maintaining his crew in the village of Saveuse and prevented any enemy advancing in that area. he only withdrew from the village when all his ammunition was expended. Throughout the action he displayed great courage and resource, and inflicted very heavy casualties on the enemy.
On May 27th, 1940, near CAUMONT 2/Lt. Erleigh was again on reconnaissance and was ordered to discover the main German positions. In carrying out this reconnaissance he lost two of the three tanks in his troop. Nevertheless he pressed on with his reconnaissance, located the main German anti-tank defences and brought back valuable information. When ordered to withdraw he displayed great courage and skill under fire, and succeeded in extricating the survivors of his disabled tanks."
