Recommendation:
During the assault of 8th Canadian Infantry Brigade on Oostburg, 25 October 1944, Lieutenant John Edward Boos commanded the leading platoon of “A” Company, The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. The only line of approach lay along the road which was covered by the enemy holding positions in houses on either side. Lieutenant John Edward Boos made a quick appreciation, then led a bayonet charge straight up the road, under heavy small arms fire, which was successful in inflicting many fatal casualties on the enemy, among whom was the commandant of the German strongpoint. His speedy action, courageous leadership and sheer daring, inspired his men and struck fear and desperation into the hearts of the enemy who finally fled their positions. Lieutenant John Edward Boos quickly consolidated their positions and within the hour his platoon successfully beat-off two enemy counterattacks, inflicting further casualties on the enemy. Had the attack been unsuccessful the whole situation would have become precarious and costly.
