"For distinguished himself by gallantry in action near St. Lunaire, France, on 13 August 1944. When the advance of his platoon was held up by enemy machine gun fire, Staff Sergeant Rothschild utterly disregarding his own safety unhesitatingly crawled forward until he was in striking distance of the position. With cool deliberation he threw three hand grenades into the emplacement, demolished the gun and killed the two occupants. Staff Sergeant Rothschild’s inspiring initiative and conspicuous daring reflect the highest credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service of the United States. Entered military service from Indiana."
