    Biography

    Herman Roy Fuller initially wanted to join the U.S. Marines but was rejected because of a broken nose he had sustained during boxing. Before the war he was employed by Southern Railroad. Following enlistment, he underwent pretraining at Fort Bragg, graduating on August 22nd, 1942. With his unit he participated in the battles in North-Africa, on Sicily and during Operartion Market Garden serving as a medic.
    During Operation Market Garden he lost his life in a German artillery attack as he was delivering first aid. He was killed instantaneously. Concerning his demise, there are a few uncertainties. Initially he was reported missing on September 24th, 1944. According to a later official report by the American Army however, he had been killed on September 26th, 1944. Even the place where he died is unclear. Sources mention the area around the Waalbridges at Nijmegen or Beek near Nijmegen.
