Major Harlan B. Heffelfinger, O-405490, Infantry, United States Army, for heroic service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of Morhange, France from 13 to 15 November. On 13 November, Major Heffelfinger, assumed command of the Third Battalion, 134th Infantry as it battled its way toward Morhange against stubborn enemy resistance and under miserable weather conditions. He remained with forward elements and moved constantly among his troops with utter disregard for enemy small arms and mortar fire. His dynamic leadership and tireless energy were a source of inspiration to the men under his command and were immeasurably responsible for the success of the battalion mission.

This award was obtained in the form of an Oak Leaf to be attached on the ribbon of the first award.
